Hair and Hatches, Blue and Shroud

Practicing hair mainly, in the first two. Getting hair details is fuggin' complicated!

Other pic is a little more coloring practice, watercolor on the left, regular fills on the right.

Black, Pink, and Paint

I've taken up an interest in trying out watercolor-style digital painting, but I am finding it quite frustrating to use. Less because of my lack of practice with paint, and more because of how the watercolor brush engines in various programs always have something constantly screwy with how they work. Either they bleed too much into one another, don't have a good "wet paper" grain texture to make it look like proper watercolor, or the "opacity overlap" effect means you have to be extremely careful with every stroke you make. It's most the latter effect, and any fuck ups have to be committed to, as blending tools just destroy the texture of the brush and ruin the effect.

I might have to actually just learn "regular" digital painting with the classic round brush before coming back to watercolor effects. This is one of the few times I'm tempted to actually try out analogue instead just to see how different it really feels.

More Procreate Sketches

I've really fallen off of even trying to do "completed", full pictures in favor of just doing rough sketches when the mood takes me. It's good in some respects in that it does get me to draw more. But I haven't really been "applying" that to a more full-effort artwork. Oh, well. Every little bit counts, I guess.

Robomaus

Robots are more fun to draw when they're round. :3

I've been trying to get myself to doodle and sketch at least a little bit most days lately, but it's a lot of rough stuff I haven't felt like posting.

Rabbit Women and Talking Dresses

Nemo and Rae portrait.

Rough sketch.

Nemo using String Magic.

Rough sketch.

Creeping and Crawling

Rae bein' a li'l scamp.

Nemo and Rae are an interesting pair with a needlessly convoluted backstory I'm in the process of trying to decide whether or not to rework. Nemo was a video game character, a rabbit-woman librarian NPC, brought to life "accidentally" by a hedonistic trickster goddess during a "real life roleplay session". Rather than erase Nemo when her task in the physical world was done, the goddess allowed her to keep on living in the miniature multiverse which she, and several other goddesses, had recently created. She also granted Nemo the unique ability to learn the native Magics of any World she visited, and be able to still use those Magics in other Worlds where they normally wouldn't function. Rae (short for "raiment"), is her living dress, accidentally brought to life by Nemo while the latter was studying the power of String Magic. The two have been stalwart interdimensional travel companions ever since!

Initially, they were going to be the main characters of an adventure series that was intended to be a sort of "tour guide" of the setting they had been incarnated in. That series, like so many others before it, never happened, of course. I have made a couple little things involving the duo, and they are fun to draw, but I've come to feel that the initial setting I made them for has severely hamstrung what I can actually do with them. I've recently been thinking about what I can do to "reincarnate" them into something else, although it would be extremely difficult to do that without compromising a lot of the metafictional details that make them who they are. Also, let's be real, whatever I come up with probably isn't getting made either anyway.
