SomethingTober #16 - MothFlip

Moth and Sir Phillip "Flip" McGriddeon are the eponymous playable characters of my first RPG Maker Game, MothFlip! Slapped together in about three or four days, it was my first attempt at some custom sprite art as well. Most of the game's assets are out of the box from RPG Maker VX Ace, though. You can see the little bit of sprite work for the game in this old post and you can check out the game in this old post.

The story of the game is that Moth is a Drifter (bounty hunter/odd jobs worker), flying through space between gigs, when he gets sucked through a wormhole and dumped onto an alien planet. There, he discovers the world has been conquered by the notorious sorcerer-warlord, the Necromaster. The only survivor of the villain's conquest is Flip, a former Rocket Knight (space police) who had chased the sorcerer to this world, only for the both to be stranded on it.

Naturally, the Necromaster wants off the planet, and he sends his minions to raid parts from Moth's flying saucer. Moth and Flip join forces to both get back the vital parts to repair the ship, and bring the Necromaster to justice. Moth powers up his moves by obtaining new guns along with his ship parts, while Flip possesses Ice and Fire Magic that can be upgraded into Thunder Magic.

It was a fun little experiment, and I had fully intended to keep making more games and even started a couple new builds, but the classic RPG format proved somewhat stifling, as it was a genre I was well tired of at the time already. Lacking any kind of coding skills, RPG Maker was the one system at the time I felt I could actually use.

I did eventually return to RPG Maker as new editions came out, but not much really came of them. The only projects I finished were a couple erotica-themed games (which didn't even have any actual erotic visuals, so what was even the point?). The less said about those, the better.

Anyway, neither Moth nor Flip ended up appearing anywhere else, but hey, one completed project is way better than most of my random character ideas end up getting!
